Hi! I'm Jeramiah!
Hi! I’m Jeramiah Dooley, and I manage the team of Developer Advocates that support ECS, App Mesh, Service Connect and the rest of the components and tools that are used to deploy containerized applications.
I’ve been doing gestures around…this for a really long time. My career has roughly followed the general movement of abstracting applications (and developers) further and further away from compute over time. I’ve worked in the legal, healthcare, service provider, and hardware manufacturing and integration industries, but each step has watched as the raw compute resources became less and less a thing that needed to be managed by customers. From virtualization, to cloud-based instances, to containers, and then serverless, I’ve gotten to watch a very fun, impactful, and interesting shift in how we see the role of developers over time.
I’m a huge believer in the role of Developer Advocacy as well! I’ve been running advocacy teams at hyperscale cloud providers since 2018, and I’ve seen every possible way for those programs to be organized and run. The AWS/ECS model, where the DA teams are a functional part of the product teams and participate in a meaningful way in building the best product we can on behalf of customers is by far my favorite. We don’t have to guess at the impact we are having, we can see it in the success of the product, in the quality of the feedback we collect, and in the things that our customers build and grow. We still get to do all of the outbound things you’d expect from an advocate; you’ll see us at AWS Summits, DevOpsDays events, re:Invent and everything else in-between, but we also provide direct and structured feedback from you, the customer, into the product team on a daily basis. This isn’t marketing, or evangelism, it’s honest-to-goodness advocacy by developers, to developers, in order to make the experience as world-class as it can be. I’m so lucky to get to work with such a great group of talented people on this team, and can’t wait for you to get to meet them and work with them.
Outside of work I love travelling, especially to see National Parks in the United States. The variety and splendor of the natural beauty in this country is stunning, and getting to drive around and experience it is one of my favorite things to do with my kids. I’m an unapologetic fan of Google Pixel devices and Android in general, I build a fair (read: excessive) number of Lego kits, collect vintage Jordans and model trains, and play video games with any time I have left. I was born in North Carolina, wandered around the world for the first couple decades of my life, and ended up back in North Carolina. It’s beautiful, affordable, very, very green, and I encourage everyone to visit!
Have questions about ECS? Need National Park recommendations? Feel free to reach out on Twitter or LinkedIn and let me know!
